Beach

Boat

Renting a boat or better a yacht is another great Malibu proposal idea.  Imagine proposing on a boat with Malibu as your backdrop…epic!  And this is a less traditional proposal idea for Malibu so it could be really cool.

Cliffs

Check the Tide

One of the biggest risks to proposing in Malibu is that the beaches there are susceptible to a high tide.  If you aren’t sure what that means in general or how that could impact your proposal, allow me to explain.  If a beach is narrow, like El Matador is, then a proposal at high tide could be catastrophic.  A high tide means that the water level is at its highest point and the beach is mostly covered in water. That means there wouldn’t be any beach to set up on or your setup could get swept away.  Here’s a pro tip, you can Google “Malibu tide on (date)” and you can find out if your desired date and time is during low or high tide.

Check If You Need A Permit

Beaches in Malibu typically do require a permit if you want any elaborate setup.  Make sure you do your research so that you don’t get in any trouble.  Or better yet, hire our Malibu Proposal Planners and we will take care of all of that for you.

Think About Parking & Stairs

If you plan on having decorations for your proposal, you are absolutely going to want to think about the parking situation.  Some beaches in Malibu have terrible parking and if you are going to be hauling an arch or marry me letters to the beach, you need to have a place to park or off-load.  And possibly even more important, you need to think about stairs.  There are some beaches in Malibu that have a lot of stairs which can be a very big problem for someone to load-in certain types of decorations.  Also, if you plan on inviting any elderly guests, that can make it very difficult for them.

Prepare for Traffic

Malibu is a gorgeous location for a proposal.  One negative thing about it though is that there is only one way in and one way out, and that is Pacific Coast Highway.  This is a 2 lane highway and it is almost always crowded.  You are going to want to give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination.
