Dress Accordingly

Preparation leading up to the marriage proposal is just as important as the very moment. When you look back at your proposal photos and video, you are going to want to see a well dressed couple, a great background, and nothing that draws the eyes away from the both of you!

When you are planning the proposal day, consider what you are going to wear. Are you going to be on a date night and surprise her with a proposal on a walk afterwards? Dress accordingly!

Are you going to propose at a sunflower field this Fall? Don’t wear a tux, you’ll be sweating and it’ll be visible in the photos. Wear something that is nice, but casual and relaxed.

How to get your soon-to-be fiancée in an appropriate, nice outfit? Maybe tell her you’re heading to a sunflower field and want to hire a photographer for some nice photos of the occasion. Propose during the photo session.

If you want it to be during date night, tell her to dress up!  Pay for her manicure for your date night! Or ask her bestie to schedule a manicure the week of the proposal if you want to throw her off a bit.  And one last important thing, don’t forget to think about you will hide your engagement ring.  Check out our thin engagement ring box!

Remember these photos will be with you forever- you won’t regret planning this out!

Consider the Weather

This goes along with dressing accordingly. Make sure you plan in advance and dress for rain, shine, or cold. Any weather situation can still become a beautiful proposal moment, you just need to be prepared!

If it’s cold out and you’re both freezing, it won’t be such an enjoyable moment. Make sure you’re both dressed warm and cozy. Consider getting a space heater if necessary to make you both more comfortable.

If it’s rainy, be sure to lead her to a dry spot. You don’t want her feet all wet, or to have to get on one knee in a puddle to propose. If it’s a light trickle, you can consider some clear umbrellas. It’ll look nice in photos and keep you both dry.

If it’s hot outside, make sure to propose in a spot where there is some shade. You don’t want to be sweating in your photos. Your photographer probably won’t want direct sunlight on you both either.

Also consider having fans and water nearby. Even a personal fan can go a long way to cool you down between photos.

Make Sure You Both Have Eaten

To make sure you both are feeling great, eat before the proposal takes place! We know you’ll be a ball of nerves, but not eating or drinking water will make it so much worse. You’ll feel queasy and lightheaded.

Enjoy a dinner together, or just make sure to eat a snack and drink some water beforehand!  As for your soon-to-be fiancée, make sure she gets a snack or dinner too! An easy way to ensure this happens is to go eat together beforehand.

You might be planning a proposal where you’re at the destination and someone brings her there. Plan in advance with whoever is bringing her to make sure they get something to eat.  This will ensure no one is “hangry”, everyone is happy, and you both will be able to last for your photoshoot after the proposal!

Make Sure Any “Extras” Are Out Of The Way

Did you just have dinner? Does she have a takeout box in her hand? Find a way to discreetly set it aside.  Does she have a purse, jacket/cardigan with her? You’ll want to try your best to get her to put those down too!

Consider telling her you want to take a selfie *right here* and have her put all her things down. Take the photo, and then take a few steps away from all the things and be ready to propose. It’s a great way to keep it cool, while making sure everything is out of the way!

If she has already realized what’s about to happen, she may be overwhelmed with emotion and even be a little bit flustered. Just take her things, set them down and lead her to the proposal spot!

Stay Down On One Knee As Long As You Can!

That moment on your knee feels like a split second and an eternity all at once. Believe us when we say, it is just an instant.  To give your photographer lots of opportunities to take that perfect shot, stay on your knee longer than necessary. Get down on your knee, open the ring box, take her hand and stay there for an extra second or two.

It truly helps your photographer and ensures you get all the best reaction photos! And believe us when we say, it isn’t too long and won’t be awkward. It goes by so quickly.
