Proposal Ideas for a Small Town

For the most part I have always lived in a city and I have loved it. For two years though when I was at grad school at Penn State University, I really got to experience the small town feel.  I really did enjoy that time.  Living in a small town has a lot of benefits, especially if you want to propose to your partner.

As a proposal planner, I actually love helping my clients that want to have their proposal in a small town.  If you’re living in a small town and want to have your own proposal there, here are some great marriage proposal ideas for you!

Picturesque Walk

Because a small town isn’t as congested like a city, you have more nature at your disposal. You can easily take a picturesque walk along a path.  Maybe this path has some sentimental reason for you to walk.

Did you and your partner walk her before on a date?  Did you first realize your partner was the one on this walk?  Is there a gorgeous view of the town from there?  Or maybe it’s just a quiet spot that can become “your” spot from now on.

A walk such as this can be somewhere that maybe has a many trees like the woods, has a river view, town view, or maybe just has a little nook that will be perfect for that private moment.

Since it’s a small town you can have a spot along this walk set up with romantic decor for your proposal.  Also, in small towns, there isn’t a lot of red tape so it’s probably easier to set up something without needing to get a permit.

Town Square

In most small towns, the center of the city is in the town square.  Many of these town squares are very picturesque and can therefore be  a perfect location to create your marriage proposal.  Additionally, many of these even have cute structures like gazebos that can be decked out to create that very romantic vibe.

Even if no gazebo exists, you can still do something very romantic like setting up a scene with candles, flowers, and love notes. Since the town is small, you will most likely walk by here again soon and know it was the location of your proposal.

River or Lake

With nature more abundant in these towns, chances are you will have a river or lake nearby.  This is an amazing opportunity to enhance your proposal.  You can get a boat or have a setup next to the body of water with an amazing view.  If you take your partner at sunset you can create an atmosphere that contains beautiful lighting like candles, lanterns, or fairy lights.  You can add to the scene by having a local musician waiting to serenade you two.  When you arrive, tell her how you feel and propose to her.

Open Space Proposal

The thing about small towns is that there is most likely going to be an open space for you to use.  This would be a great chance to use that space as an empty canvas for your proposal.

Maybe you can set up a projector and screen here to display your favorite memories as a slideshow.  Maybe you can have the high school marching band waiting there to perform for your proposal.  Maybe you can set up thousands of rose petals on an open area to spell out “MARRY ME” or have your initials.

The possibilities are endless and with a lot of open space, your creativity can be used to come up with something truly unique.
